Have
you ever wondered how can someone be so perfect, perfect in every work assigned
to them? Their work performance soaring skies, they are perfectly able to
manage work and enjoy their lives as well.
Whereas
you struggling to get your basic job responsibilities fulfilled; forget about
innovation and value adding, they are totally alien to you. Your work nowhere
near to perfection and your personal life almost doesn’t exist at all.
Rethink your Career |
Then
it is the time to take a look at the job / career choices you have made. It is time to rethink your choices. How
are they affecting you? Are they positively contributing to improve you as an
individual? What about your work life balance?
One
of the major things in any work is how you view it from your own perspective,
irrespective of what the actual job may be. Do you consider your job
challenging enough, motivates you to wake up to every morning. Do you believe
you are doing some value addition, how do you place your work with respect to
the things you admire most in life?
If
you are not convinced about the greatness and importance of your work, the
direct / indirect impact it generates; then it is impossible to find job
satisfaction. A little bit of career planning is very much essential to lead a
fulfilling life.
Things
to be considered for successful career planning are:
1. Understanding Yourselves:
Let me make it further simple to you, ponder over
these questions and make a note of things which matter to you.
·
What are the things you are extremely
good at? How skilled you are at these?
· Think about your work related
experiences and any other personal or extracurricular experiences which can further add onto your skills. What are those skills?
· How is your knowledge and conceptual understanding
about the things you are good at? Look at it from the perspective of making a
long term career out of it.
·
Is it important for you to contribute to
society through your work?
·
How important is friends and family time
for you.
·
How much time you need daily for your
other personal commitments.
·
How much time you want to dedicate on
your sports activities / hobbies.
2. Understanding Job Markets:
Here we need to understand the job opportunities
available in the market, which are in line with your skills, knowledge,
experiences and passion.
Be realistic, analyse and understand the job opportunities
from practical perspective, understand the day in and day out activities
involved.
Go through the Job Description / Job Responsibilities, are they in
line with your expectations.
Imagine yourselves delivering those tasks and
activities. Just don’t go by the designations and Job titles,
they can be misleading at times.
3. Making the Right Choice:
After
you go through all these aspects about yourselves and Job markets /
opportunities, you get a realistic idea about what to expect.
Now you need to
make a choice which is RIGHT for you, which is in alignment with you and your
goals. Here it is very important to look at those choices from a 360 degree
view, personal, professional and all other aspects of your work and
corresponding nuances it brings in.
People
excel in their lives because of the choices / experiences they have had. These choices
/ experiences may or may not have been chosen voluntarily, but every bit of
those come with lessons which carve you and lead you towards your own
excellence.
Career
planning is not just about one decision made right. There might be times when
you have to take up unpaid work as well; you might have to take up free / paid internships,
evening jobs, and voluntary work in an effort to acquire all the skills,
knowledge & experiences essential to carve yourself a path to realise your
dreams / passion.
Do
you still want to be judged for not being able to crawl? You’ve got wings; realise your potential, WHY CRAWL WHEN YOU CAN FLY.
